DescriptionA superb riding trek in a straight line for six days from the Cathar Pyrenees, along the former border between the kingdoms of France and Aragon, to the wild beaches of Franquie. From west to east, you will discover the Cathar trail from the Pyrenees and the citadels built on impressive limestone peaks. Finally, after crossing the Mediterranean scrublands, you will gallop on the wild beaches of the Regional Natural Park of Narbonne. Camurac - Belvis (gite)
We mount up and cross the “pla de Boom”. We overlook the Gorge de la Frau and from the Pas de l’Ours, we can admire the mountain views of the Frau mountain, the peak of Soularac and Montsegur Castle. We cross the Plateau de Languerail westward, though pastures where herds of Gascon cows and Pyrenean horses graze throughout the summer season. We then descend to the Sault plateau where we will enjoy galloping along paths. We arrive in the late afternoon at our gîte at Fontblanche, where we will enjoy the tranquillity of our surroundings. 4.5 hours of riding.
Belvis - Ayguebonne (gite)
We leave the Sault plateau to head down towards the gorges of Rebenty, passing through the upper valley of the Aude and then on to the castle of Puylaurens. Standing on a rocky peak, it remains well preserved. It is protected by an unsual structure and its battlements are almost intact. We ride for a few more minutes to reach the gîte at Ayguebonne. 35 km and more than 6 hours in the saddle.
Ayguebonne - Bouchard (gite)
We cross the Fenouillède valley, known for its vineyards. Then we pass by the foot of the Pech Bugarach, a mountain shrouded in mystery. And finally, we climb to the gîte at Bouchard, a gite in the middle of a wildlife reserve where you can see deer. The views of the Pyrenees is glorious. 5-6 hours of riding.
Bouchard - Tuchan (gite)
We travel to the east, crossing the village of Cubières. Later, we will enjoy the great views that are available to us: Peyrepertuse Castle, the citadel of vertigo, and the villages of Dhuilac and Cucugnan. We pass below the castle of Quéribus, perched on the final high peaks of the Corbières. We reach the village of Tuchan and our gite. 5-6 hours of riding.
Tuchan - Opoul (gite)
We cross the wild scrubland which smells of the Mediterranean. We cross the Caval Pass, passing beside the Aguilar chateaus, and arrive at our gite, Val d'Oriol, lost amid the scrubland. 4 hours of riding.
Opoul - La Franqui (gite or hotel)
We leave the Val Oriel, and travel on the slopes of the Serre de la Murtra. Soon we see the lakes of Leucate and La Palme and then the Mediterranean Sea. 5-6 hours of riding.
Early in the morning, we mount our horses one last time for a superb gallop on the wild beach at Coussoules, at the heart of the Natural Park.
